Following previous calls for investigations, five Republican members of New York’s congressional delegation are calling for an investigation into the state’s handling of group homes during the coronavirus pandemic.

In the letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, U.S. Reps. Claudia Tenney, Elise Stefanik, Lee Zeldin, Nicole Malliotakis and Chris Jacobs questioned the state’s information on COVID-related deaths. The letter draws comparisons between the directives for group homes and those governing nursing homes.

In a press release, Tenney said the “sweeping legislation amounts to an unprecedented federal takeover of state elections,” which would “weaken the integrity of the voting process, lead to massive unfunded mandates on our communities, prevent meaningful oversight of elections, and pave the way for errors and abuse.”
