WKTV -- New York will lose one seat in Congress as a result of national population shifts, according to new census data. The state’s delegation will shrink from 27 to 26. It is one of seven states losing a member of congress as a result of the 2020 census data released Monday.

One of the districts that was rumored to be on the chopping block was the 22nd District.

Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, who represents the 22nd, believes with Congressman Tom Reed of the 23rd District not running again, that would help keep the 22nd intact and help other upstate districts grow.

"Help wanted" signs plaster the doors of countless central New York Businesses, as they struggle to attract workers.

"We are just struggling to even find people," says Jason Allen-Leonard, of Wisk Baking Co., in downtown Utica. "Unemployment benefits being so large at this time it's sort of deterring people from coming back."

Federal unemployment insurance benefits of an additional $300 a week over and above New York State unemployment expire in early September. The max one can collect, with both, in New York State, add up to $804 a week.
