Tenney Joins New York State Colleagues in Calling on State and Federal Officials to Take Action Against Pro-Abortion Terrorist Group
Washington, DC — Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) today hosted a press briefing with Congressman Lee Zeldin (NY-01), New York State Senator George Borrello (SD-57), and Jim Harden, President of CompassCare Pregnancy Services, to urge federal and state authorities to do more to protect New York’s pro-life pregnancy centers.
Last week, CompassCare Pregnancy Services in Amherst, NY was firebombed by pro-abortion terrorists, continuing a trend seen across the country in recent weeks. Since the unauthorized leak of the draft decision in the Dobbs v. Jackson Supreme Court case, pro-life pregnancy centers across the country have been targeted by threats and violent attacks.
During today’s press conference, Tenney highlighted these attacks and stressed the need for greater action and more cooperation between federal, state, and local authorities to enforce the law and protect those who are being targeted. Tenney also spoke about her recent letter to Attorney General Garland, which was signed by more than 100 of her colleagues, demanding the Department of Justice take swift action to condemn this rising tide of violence against pro-life Americans and investigate the attacks against them as acts of domestic terrorism.
“Political violence has absolutely no place in America,” said Tenney. “I am grateful for those who joined me this morning to highlight the gravity and seriousness of these recent attacks and to call for immediate action. I also sincerely appreciate the work that Jim Harden and CompassCare Pregnancy Services continue to do every day to support pregnant women in crisis, especially in the face of growing violence and threats. We must continue to work together to send a clear message to far-left activists that political violence will not be tolerated. It is time for Attorney General Garland to either step up to the plate and put an end to this anarchy or resign and make way for someone else who will.”
“The U.S. Department of Justice has an obligation to protect the people who are being wrongly and unfairly targeted with violent hate, and put the domestic terrorists who are committing these heinous acts behind bars,” said Zeldin during the press event.
Speaking about Jane’s Revenge, the pro-abortion terrorist group that took credit for the attack on CompassCare’s facility, Borrello said, “This is an organized group that is threatening violence, and what is being done about it? Nothing. It is absolutely shameful.”
“Pro-life people and pregnancy centers need protection from those who are trying to destroy our property and kill our staff… It is the government’s job to protect all citizens, even those that differ with the prevailing political ideology,” said Harden.
Additional members of the New York State Legislature echo today’s call for greater action from federal and state authorities, including Senate Minority Leader Rob Ortt and Assemblyman David DiPietro.
"The despicable firebombing of a pro-life pregnancy center in our community requires the full attention and resources of the state, as I recently urged the Governor. The terrorist group which gleefully took credit for the CompassCare attack — and countless others across our country — must be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," said Senator Rob Ortt (SD-62).
“My thoughts and prayers go to those involved in the abortion clinic fire last week. These horrendous acts of violence in Amherst and Buffalo are utterly disgusting and cannot be tolerated,” said Assemblyman David DiPietro (AD-147). "We cannot condone the increase of violence this state has been experiencing. It is time to put a stop to this and fix what Democrats in Albany seem far more interested in as they blame others for the laundry list of scandals, public safety debacles and economic crises they have created than fixing the problems. I call on Governor Hochul and local authorities to help protect our residents and put a stop to sudden acts of violence."
