Reps. Tenney, Fischbach Reintroduce the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women Act During Pro-Life Month
Washington, D.C. – Congresswomen Claudia Tenney (NY-24) and Michelle Fischbach (MN-7) reintroduced the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women Act, reaffirming their commitment to protecting mothers, children, and states’ ability to support life-affirming care.
The legislation would codify states’ authority to use Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds to support pregnancy resource centers that provide critical services to pregnant women and new mothers. Rep. Tenney previously served as a co-lead on the bill during the 118th Congress, when House Republicans worked to block Biden administration rulemaking that could have restricted states from directing TANF resources to pregnancy centers. The reintroduction comes during Pro-Life Month, as lawmakers emphasize policies that support women, families, and unborn children.
“Women facing unplanned or difficult pregnancies deserve support, not government roadblocks or political agendas,” said Congresswoman Tenney. “Pregnancy resource centers provide medical care, parenting support, counseling, and essential supplies that help women choose life and care for their children with dignity. The Biden administration’s attempt to interfere with states’ use of TANF funds was an unacceptable overreach that threatened access to these vital services. This legislation ensures that Washington does not stand in the way of states that choose to support pregnant and parenting women, protect unborn children, and strengthen families. During Pro-Life Month and every month, standing up for life means standing with women, families, and the organizations that serve them.”
