ICYMI: Congresswoman Tenney Joins China Tech Threat to Discuss Hazards of Chinese Technology
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22), member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, on Wednesday joined China Tech Threat to discuss the hazards posed by risky Chinese technology, including those used by the New York State government and federal law enforcement.
China Tech Threat is an online publication dedicated to bringing awareness to the dangers of compromised Chinese technology and producing information regarding relevant policy considerations. China Tech Threat has reported in the past on New York State’s extensive contracts with Chinese state-owned and influenced technology companies. Last December, Tenney wrote to New York Governor Hochul seeking answers about safeguards the State uses to protect New Yorkers from vulnerable Chinese technology.
During the event, Tenney spoke about the risks of Chinese technology in New York, where the State has spent tens of millions of dollars on contracts with Chinese state-owned or influenced companies. She also discussed her work to keep drones made by Chinese companies out of our skies as well as her efforts to bring these issues to the forefront of the discussion surrounding cybersecurity and consumer protection.
In Congress, Tenney is a leader on issues pertaining to the threat of Chinese technology equipment and software. She is an original cosponsor of the Secure Equipment Act, which was signed into law and barred the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from approving new authorizations for any equipment listed on the Covered List of high-risk technologies. She also is an original cosponsor of the Countering CCP Drones Act, which would add DJI Technologies, a Chinese state-linked company, to the FCC Covered List.
