ICYMI: Congresswoman Tenney Highlights the Biden Border Crisis in House Floor Speech

September 26, 2022

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) last week highlighted the ongoing crisis at our Southern Border in a speech on the Floor of the House of Representatives.

In her speech, Congresswoman Tenney spoke about the explosion of the disaster occurring at our Southern Border, including the record 2.1 million encounters with migrants at the border during this fiscal year. She also spoke about the influx of deadly drugs, such as fentanyl, which have heavily afflicted communities across upstate New York.

Since President Biden took office, a crisis has exploded on the United States’ Southern Border. More than 3.5 million migrants have been stopped by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents at the Southern Border under Biden, and during the month of August, 203,597 migrants were stopped by CBP, an increase of 307% compared with the last August of the Trump administration. 78 individuals on terrorist watchlists have been apprehended after crossing the border. Furthermore, more than 12,000 pounds of fentanyl have been seized in fiscal year 2022 (FY22). Biden’s push for open border policies and amnesty for illegal immigrants has created and continues to bolster the worst border crisis in modern history.

Congresswoman Tenney’s full speech is available here.

Thank you Madam Speaker.

I rise today to highlight the ongoing unprecedented disaster that’s occurring at our Southern Border and underscore the need for immediate change.

In August, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents encountered 203,597 illegal immigrants at our Southern Border. That was an increase of 307% compared to the last August of the Trump administration.

This also put the U.S. at over 2 million encounters for fiscal year 2022. This is the first time we have EVER eclipsed 2 million in a single year—and we still have one month to go!

Despite all these facts, Vice President Harris said last week that she believed the border to be secure. If our so-called “Border Czar” thinks that this is “secure,” then it is no wonder why we continue to see no viable options and this problem continues to explode without a solution.

The Biden administration must take swift and immediate action at the Southern Border. We must restart border wall construction, invest in proven technologies, empower Customs and Border Protection agents to enforce the law, and hire more CBP agents to support the men and women already giving us honorable service on the ground.

Thank you, Madam Speaker. I yield back.
