House Passes Bipartisan Bill Cosponsored by Congresswoman Tenney
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22), member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, praised passage of H.R. 1112, the Protect Democracy in Burma Act of 2021, a bipartisan piece of legislation that supports democracy and stands with the people of Burma. Tenney, an original cosponsor of H.R. 1112, recently called for the international community to join the United States in condemning the Burmese military coup and gross human rights abuses.
“As a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I am honored to be an original cosponsor of this bipartisan legislation. New York’s 22nd Congressional District is home to more than 4,000 Burmese refugees and new Burmese-American citizens who have been coming to our region for over 20 years. They are demanding action and a return to civilian rule in Burma – I stand with them, and all of my colleagues, in condemning the gross human rights abuses that are taking place at the hands of the military coup last month.”
