Congresswomen Claudia Tenney Issues Statement on NYC Election Chaos
Washington, DC - Congresswomen Claudia Tenney (NY-22), co-chair of the House Election Integrity Caucus, issued the following statement on the New York City election chaos.
“New York State election law is broken. The New York City Board of Elections’ error, which miscounted over 135,000 ballots, is yet another embarrassment for our state. Our right to vote is sacred and elections must be free, fair, transparent and decided on election night. Voters deserve to know that their vote was counted. New York’s unverified absentee ballot portal, lack of voter ID requirement and use of rank choice voting has led to yet another election marred by inaccurate counts. This is further shaking voter confidence, which is already at an all-time low.
“New York State must immediately pass election reforms that meet the needs of voters. This includes commonsense voter ID laws and an end to the corrupt partisan practice of ballot harvesting. NYC should also reverse its undemocratic decision to implement rank choice voting, which is undermining election integrity."
