Congresswoman Tenney Votes for Legislation to Unleash American Energy Production

March 30, 2023

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) today voted in favor of H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act, which will increase America’s energy independence and reduce gas prices for families across the country.

This bill was led by House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.), Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.), Natural Resources Committee Chair Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.), and Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chair Sam Graves (R-Mo.). Tenney was an original co-sponsor of this bill, which passed the House by a vote of 225-204.

"Joe Biden declared war on American energy production on day one of his presidency, causing the average price for a gallon of gas to skyrocket by over 40%," said Congresswoman Tenney. "Families across the country and in New York's 24th District continue to feel the pain at the gas pump because of his reckless policies. Today, with the passage of the Lower Energy Costs Act, American families can rest assured that House Republicans are committed to stopping the left’s dangerous anti-American energy agenda that is causing outrageous price hikes and putting our national security at risk. I was honored to cosponsor and vote for H.R. 1, which boosts American energy production, streamlines supply chains, lowers costs, and works to make our country energy independent once again."

The Lower Energy Costs Act restores American energy independence by:

  • Unleashing domestic energy production;
  • Disapproving of President Biden’s canceling of the Keystone XL pipeline;
  • Reforming the National Environmental Policy Act permitting process to streamline federal reviews for all sectors of the economy;
  • Prohibiting President Biden from banning hydraulic fracturing;
  • Rolling back President Biden’s $27 billion EPA slush fund for Democrat special interests;
  • Enhancing America’s ability to develop critical energy resources by improving the environmental permitting processes at critical minerals refining and process facilities;
  • Preventing liberal states like New York from blocking interstate infrastructure projects;
  • Repealing harmful royalties and fee increases imposed on energy production that drive up prices for families; and
  • Repealing President Biden’s $6 billion natural gas tax that would increase energy bills for families.
