Congresswoman Tenney Votes to Ban Illegal Immigrants from Being Counted in the Census
Washington, DC—Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) voted in favor of the Equal Representation Act which requires the inclusion of a citizenship question in the census questionnaire. It also amends existing law to ensure that only citizens are included when determining the population of a state for the purpose of allotting seats in the House of Representatives and Electoral College votes.
This legislation passed the House by a vote of 206-202.
"States that have refused to enforce our nation’s immigration laws are now unfairly gaining additional representation in the House of Representatives and Electoral College," said Congresswoman Tenney. "Counting illegal immigrants as part of the apportionment process undermines the representation of every single American. The right to vote is sacred, and we must protect it at all costs. The Equal Representation Act safeguards our nation’s electoral process by ensuring only American citizens are counted when allocating congressional seats and Electoral College votes!"
