Congresswoman Tenney Urges Hochul to Bring Times Square Police Attackers to Justice

February 8, 2024

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) today led the entire New York Republican Delegation in demanding Governor Kathy Hochul bring the perpetrators who attacked two New York City Police Officers in Times Square to justice.

This letter was signed by Representatives Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Marc Molinaro (R-NY), Anthony D’Esposito (R-NY), Mike Lawler (R-NY), Nick LaLota (R-NY), Nick Langworthy (R-NY), Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY), and Brandon Williams (R-NY).

On January 27th, two New York Police Department officers were brutally assaulted by a group of illegal immigrants outside of a migrant shelter in Times Square. There are reports that four of the alleged attackers have fled New York’s jurisdiction. Tenney’s letter questions whether Governor Hochul will turn those found guilty over to federal immigration authorities and if she supports Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s decision not to request bail. The letter also reiterates Tenney’s long-standing demand that District Attorney Bragg be fired for his continued pro-crime policies.

"Governor Hochul, Mayor Adams, and DA Bragg’s anti-police, pro-criminal, and pro-migrant policies and rhetoric are putting our brave men and women in blue at risk," said Congresswoman Tenney. "The recent attack on NYPD officers is reprehensible, and the perpetrators of this crime should be held accountable, and that includes being detained without bail. District Attorney Bragg should immediately be fired for allowing these violent criminals back on the streets and to flee New York's jurisdiction. Our state will not tolerate these attacks on our officers without consequences. New York Democrats must choose our brave police officers over illegal migrants and hold these violent criminals accountable!"
