Congresswoman Tenney Stands with Law Enforcement After Day of Unprecedented Violence Against Police
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) on Monday released the following statement after a day of unprecedented violence against police officers across our country.
“In the last 24 hours, 13 police officers were shot across the United States. Thankfully, all are expected to survive. But six officers have already been killed this year.
“Enough is enough. Liberal activists have demonized law enforcement for too long, fueling propaganda that has emboldened criminals to disregard authority and disrespect law enforcement. Zealous left-wing prosecutors have made the problem worse by refusing to punish criminals for everything from minor offenses to misdemeanors and felonies. This must stop now.
“Law enforcement officers protect our communities honorably each day. Today, I reaffirm my commitment to standing with them and all families in our region who want secure streets and prosperous communities. The assault on law and order must end, and that starts with repealing the disastrous bail reform law, fully funding law enforcement, investing in vital mental health services, and holding activist prosecutors accountable for failing to enforce the law.”
Tenney is a steadfast supporter of law enforcement. Earlier this year, she introduced the Local Law Enforcement Protection Act, which safeguards qualified immunity for law enforcement. She is also a cosponsor of the Defending our Defenders Act, which establishes a federal criminal penalty of life in prison or death for those who murder police officers.
