Congresswoman Tenney Reintroduces Bill to Protect Workers from Overreaching Vaccine Mandates
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) recently reintroduced the Employment Freedom for All (EVEN) to increase protections for workers who chose not to receive the vaccine mandate.
Throughout the past two years, countless Americans made a personal healthcare decision to not receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Many were subsequently fired for their vaccine status and because of restrictive non-competes clauses, prevented from seeking employment elsewhere. As a result, some employees have been unable to find equivalent employment in their fields due to restrictive non-compete agreements.
The EVEN Act was introduced alongside Congressman Greg Steube (FL-17) and Anna Paulina Luna (FL-13) and works to invalidate any non-compete agreements made between employers and workers who were fired for not receiving a COVID-19 vaccine so these workers can rightly find employment without burdensome barriers.
Following the EVEN Act release, the lawmakers released the following statements:
"Following the COVID-19 pandemic, our economy remains in turmoil with businesses across the country experiencing supply chain and employee shortages," said Congresswoman Tenney. "In these circumstances, not only is it wrong to force workers into making a personal medical decision, it is absolutely irrational to then deny Americans the ability to work elsewhere because of their personal medical decision. I am honored to reintroduce this bill, which puts workers first by ensuring no employee is bound by non-compete agreements if they are fired for not receiving the COVID vaccine.”
“Millions of Americans have unjustly been forced to choose between keeping their jobs or being fired for their vaccination status, which employers across the country have used to punish workers who did not comply because of their strong convictions," said Congresswoman Luna. "This is anti-American, anti-family, and anti-freedom, which is why I’ve chosen to co-sponsor the EVEN Act and begin pursuing justice for such an egregious abuse of power.”
