Congresswoman Tenney Moves to Make Secretary Mayorkas’ Salary to $1
Cleveland, NY – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) today, alongside Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), introduced an amendment to the Homeland Security Appropriations Bill invoking the Holman Rule against Secretary Mayorkas for his dereliction of duty.
The Holman Rule allows members of the House of Representatives to propose amendments to appropriations bills to reduce the salary or expenses of a particular federal employee or program. This amendment is using the rule to reduce Secretary Mayorkas’ salary to $1 for failing to secure our border and combat the migrant crisis plaguing our country.
Additional cosponsors include Reps. Derrick Van Orden (R-WI), Jeff Duncan (R-SC) Russell Fry (R-SC), Scott DesJarlais (R-TN), Bill Posey (R-FL), Carol Miller (R-WV), Ryan Zinke (R-MT), Harriet Hageman (R-WY), Beth Van Duyne (R-TX), and Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY).
“Secretary Mayorkas should not be paid hundreds of thousands of tax dollars to continually fail to protect American taxpayers from threats crossing our borders,” said Congresswoman Tenney. “Thanks to Secretary Mayorkas’ work, or lack thereof, there have been at least 5.8 million illegal crossings of our southern border since Biden took office, turning all our communities into border communities. Today, I introduced an amendment with Congressman Chip Roy to the Homeland Security Appropriations Bill to invoke the Holman Rule against Secretary Mayorkas for his failure to secure our border and make his salary $1. If the President refuses to fire him for his dereliction of duty, his salary must reflect his failures.”
“It’s time to end this border crisis once and for all,” said Congressman Roy. “The American people have no obligation to keep paying a federal official who refuses to do his job and uphold his oath, and that's why we should zero out Mayorkas' salary. I’m glad to work with Rep. Tenney in this fight to regain operational control of the border.”
