Congresswoman Tenney Joins Resolution Calling on Biden to Get Tough on Crime

July 19, 2022

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) recently joined with Congressman David Kustoff (TN-08) and 22 other House Republicans to introduce a resolution urging President Joe Biden to develop a strategy to counter the rise in violent crime across the United States.

In 2020, violent crime across the United States rose by more than 5% from the previous year, according to the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program. The murder rate skyrocketed by nearly 30% and aggravated assaults increased by 11.7%. In 2021, there was a 59% increase in murders of police officers.

“Violent crime is skyrocketing across the United States, and New York has been no exception. It is time for Joe Biden to get tough on crime. Fueled by a rising tide of anti-police rhetoric and pro-criminal policies such as New York’s disastrous bail reform law, our communities have been torn apart,” said Tenney. “Misplaced sympathy for violent criminals victimizes law abiding Americans who only wish to live in safety. President Biden must address this growing threat and take serious actions to curb the rise in crime and make our streets safe once again.”

Specifically, the resolution highlights eye-popping statistics that demonstrate rising crime throughout the country. It also resolves that the President should work together with Congress to develop and execute a strategy to counter the rise in crime by reinforcing strong criminal justice policies, by securing the southern border, and by coordinating between Federal, State, and local agencies.
