Congresswoman Tenney Joins New York Delegation to Demand Energy Affordability and Oppose Hochul’s Extreme Mandates
Washington, DC — Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) today participated in a press conference with New York House Republican colleagues and Republican Members of the New York Assembly to highlight the state’s worsening energy affordability crisis and push back against Governor Kathy Hochul’s costly and unrealistic energy mandates.
During the event, lawmakers highlighted that New Yorkers are facing double-digit utility increases while Albany Democrats continue to advance policies that would eliminate natural gas hookups, force all-electric construction, and overload a grid already strained by rising demand. Although Governor Hochul recently paused her natural gas ban, experts and legislators warn that the mandate would add $20,000–$30,000 to the cost of building a new home and drive electricity demand up more than 40 percent by 2040. The Energy Choice Act, which Rep. Tenney cosponsors, would protect consumers by preventing state and local governments from banning access to reliable, affordable energy sources.
“New Yorkers are being crushed by soaring energy bills and rising costs, yet Governor Hochul continues to push extreme mandates that make life even more expensive,” said Congresswoman Tenney. “Eliminating natural gas, forcing all-electric buildings, and straining an already unstable grid will only punish families, seniors, and small businesses. Hochul’s so-called ‘pause’ is nothing more than a political maneuver to hide the true cost of her agenda. New Yorkers deserve energy choice, affordability, and reliability, not mandates crafted by activists and out-of-touch Albany bureaucrats. That’s why I’m standing with my colleagues to advance the Energy Choice Act and restore common sense to our state’s energy policy.”
