Congresswoman Tenney Issues Statement on the 20th Anniversary of September 11 Attacks
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) issued the following statement as America honors the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, which took the lives of 2,977 people in New York City, Washington, DC and Shanksville, PA.
“Today our Nation mourns those we lost on this solemn day twenty years ago. America was forever changed by the evil attacks of September 11, 2001. But what was one our Nation’s darkest days, also brought out the best of this country. Americans came together in an unprecedented way to support those who were suffering and assist in recovery efforts.
“In the year following the September 11 attacks, thousands of brave Americans answered the call to serve by enlisting in active-duty service. Many more joined their local police and fire departments to serve as first responders. During one of the worst days in our history, we saw the best of America’s resilient spirit. The terrorists did not win, and they never will.
“Please join me today in remembering those we lost, praying for those they left behind, and honoring those who continue to serve our Nation.”
Tenney has cosponsored a bipartisan resolution in Congress to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Tenney is also a cosponsor of the 9/11 Responder and Survivor Health Funding Correction Act. This bipartisan bill addresses funding shortfalls in the World Trade Center Health Program (WTCHP) to make certain that funding for the program is provided well into the future. Without this legislation, the program risks running out of funds in the coming years. The bill would also permit the WTCHP to conduct research on the impacts of toxic exposure and psychological trauma on the thousands of then-children who attended school or daycare in the New York City disaster area following the attacks.
