Congresswoman Tenney Introduces the ROBERT MALLEY Act to Hold Federal Bureaucrats Accountable

December 7, 2023

Washington, DC– Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) today introduced the ROBERT MALLEY Act to require the heads of executive agencies to disclose, upon request, relevant information to congressional committees regarding the furlough or indefinite suspension of employees within their respective agencies.

Inspired by the State Department’s failure to provide additional information on U.S. Special Envoy for Iran, Robert Malley’s suspension due to allegedly mishandling classified materials, this legislation works to provide more details about why Malley was furloughed and to prevent future coverups like this.

“The Special Envoy for Iran Robert Malley was recently placed on leave for mishandling classified material, yet for months, the administration has withheld critical information regarding his suspension,” said Congresswoman Tenney. “The State Department’s failure to inform Congress is deeply troubling and underscores the need for robust Congressional oversight to restore accountability and transparency. The ROBERT MALLEY Act aims to uncover the full story behind Special Envoy Malley’s Iranian spy ring and prevent future coverups by the Biden administration. I remain committed to ensuring Congress can properly oversee federal agencies and government officials.”
