Congresswoman Tenney Hosts Second Farm Bill Roundtable in Oswego
Oswego, NY – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) today hosted her second roundtable as part of her Farm Bill Listening Tour across the 24th District. Farmers and agricultural stakeholders from across Central New York and the North Country participated in the event to share their concerns ahead of Congress’s consideration of the Farm Bill.
As part of the Farm Bill Listening Tour, Tenney is hosting a series of roundtable events to hear directly from constituents about their priorities for agriculture and conservation policies. Every five years, Congress typically passes the Farm Bill, which is a multi-year legislative package that guides federal policies surrounding agriculture, nutrition, conservation, and forestry. This was the second stop of Tenney’s Listening Tour, with the first event being held in Batavia. The next and final roundtable discussion will be held for constituents in the Finger Lakes region on April 6, 2023, in Phelps, New York.
At today’s roundtable event, Tenney was also joined by Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay, Senator Mark Walczyk, Assemblyman Scott Gray, and Oswego County Clerk Terry Wilbur.
Following the roundtable discussion, Congresswoman Tenney was awarded the New York Farm Bureau’s Friend of the Farm Bureau Award by Oswego Farm Bureau President Bruce Gibson. The award recognizes Congresswoman Tenney for her longstanding commitment to advocating for New York’s farmers.
"New York's beautiful 24th District is the largest agricultural district in the Northeast, producing everything from dairy and beef to wine, apples, and maple syrup, in addition to a variety of other specialty crops that feed our community, nation, and the world," said Congresswoman Tenney. "The Farm Bill is an opportunity to make sure the concerns of our farming community are reflected in federal policies, which is why this Farm Bill Listening tour is so vitally important. Thank you to all the hardworking farmers and producers who attended today's roundtable discussion to share their feedback. I deeply value your input and am eager to bring your concerns back to Congress as we begin crafting the 2023 Farm Bill, and I continue to advocate for our community’s needs."
"Today is about our farms and how we can help them succeed. Agriculture is a critical industry in New York State and the entire North Country. Our State boasts over 33,000 farms, 98% of which are family-owned, and provides needed resources to ensure our economy thrives. I'm proud to stand with Congresswoman Tenney and other members of the New York State Legislature as we listen and advocate for this 5.75 billion dollar industry," said Senator Mark Walczyk.
“It was an honor to Join “Congresswoman Tenney on her listening tour for the Farm Bill. I was pleased to join Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay and Senator Mark Walczyk to provide state input on a variety of agricultural issues facing Farmers all over the North Country," said Assemblyman Scott Gray.
