Congresswoman Tenney Highlights Beginning of Manufacturing Month in October

October 10, 2022

Utica, NY – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) today released a video highlighting the beginning of Manufacturing Month this October. Each year, manufacturing month is celebrated to underscore the importance of America’s industrial sector and celebrate the workers who keep American manufacturing running.

Upstate New York has a rich history as a manufacturing powerhouse, beginning as the cradle of the industrial revolution. It was where the Erie Canal began, opening our nation to unprecedented westward expansion. Since the 1800s, upstate New York developed a reputation as a manufacturing hub. Rome, New York produced 10% of America’s copper. Endicott, New York was home to IBM’s “Plant Number One,” which grew to a sprawling campus of 25 buildings, where thousands worked every day. Companies such as Revere Copper continue to operate today.

Since first coming to Congress, Congresswoman Tenney has been a tenacious advocate for American manufacturers and for the restoration of America’s hollowed-out industrial sector. During her first term in Congress, Tenney authored the SPOONSS Act to require the Department of Defense to purchase stainless steel flatware from American manufacturers.

During the 117th Congress, Congresswoman Tenney introduced the bipartisan American Innovation and Manufacturing Act to increase access to capital for smaller manufacturing businesses, especially in rural areas like upstate New York. Tenney also introduced the Make it in America to Sell it in America Act to address our dangerous reliance on foreign products in critical industries. Not only would this legislation help restore our battered supply chains, but it would also help reinvigorate America’s manufacturing industry.

After conducting an extensive survey and speaking with thousands of local stakeholders, Congresswoman Tenney released her Community Opportunity Report last year, where she highlighted the issues faced by employers and individuals in upstate New York and outlined her plans for restoring America’s status as an industrial giant.
