Congresswoman Tenney Demands Accountability for Governor Hochul, NYS DOH

January 25, 2022

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) today released the following statement in response to the New York State Supreme Court’s ruling against Governor Hochul’s unscientific and overreaching mask mandate for school children.

“My office has received a flood of calls this morning from parents who are reporting that the mask mandate for children continues to be enforced despite yesterday’s court ruling. As Governor Hochul and the New York State Department of Health fight to overturn this ruling and take power away from parents, the Supreme Court was clear: the mandate is unconstitutional and has been struck down. If parents have questions or concerns, they are encouraged to call my office.

Some young children have spent a third of their lives behind masks, not seeing the faces of their friends or teachers. Extreme measures like this are now posing a greater risk to our students’ learning and development than the virus itself. We are only beginning to understand the full extent of the damage that has been done to them. It is time for these restrictive, anti-science mandates to end and for students to return safely to the classroom without masks and out from behind a computer screen. I will continue fighting for the rights of parents and children. New York’s students should not suffer one more day because of political edicts that have nothing do with science.”
