Congresswoman Tenney Cosponsors the Energy Choice Act to End the Left’s War on American Energy

October 30, 2023

Washington, DC– Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) cosponsored the Energy Choice Act to prohibit states or local governments from banning an energy service's connection, reconnection, modification, installation, or expansion based on the type or source of energy to be delivered.

This bill was led by Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23). Additional Original cosponsors of this legislation include Reps. Claudia Tenney (NY-24), Dan Newhouse (WA-04), Tony Gonzales (TX-23), Mike Lawler (NY-17), Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11), Tom McClintock (CA-5), Jim Moylan (GU-AL), David Valadao (CA-22), and Clay Higgins (LA-03).

Earlier this year, Governor Kathy Hochul's $229 billion budget made New York the first state to ban gas stoves. In addition, numerous municipalities across New York state have taken the extreme move to ban any natural gas hookups for new buildings. President Biden has followed these unprecedented acts by allowing his federal agencies to explore similar policies to ban specific types of energy sources. Tenney has been dedicated to fighting the Democrat's attack on American Energy. In June, she voted in favor of two pieces of legislation that preemptively block any future attempts from the Biden administration to restrict gas stoves or consumer choice in energy.

"President Biden and Governor Hochul continue to squash American energy production and infringe on Americans' right to choose how they heat their homes by implementing legislation to make energy for our communities less reliable and more expensive," said Congresswoman Tenney. "The Energy Choice Act would prevent any state or local attacks on energy choice, ensuring all Americans can use the energy source that works best for them and their family. The Left must end their war on natural gas and stop restricting Americans’ access to affordable and reliable energy!"
