Congresswoman Tenney, Congressman Moskowitz Urge President Biden to Hold Iran Accountable for Attack on Israel
Washington, DC– Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) alongside Congressman Jared Moskowitz (FL-23) today sent a letter to President Biden urging him to take action against Iran for its involvement in funding, training, and supporting an attack on Israel by the Iran-backed terror groups Hamas and Hezbollah.
This letter specifically calls on President Biden to abandon negotiations to re-enter the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, encourages our allies to designate Hezbollah and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist entities, and urges the Biden administration to continue working towards full diplomatic relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia. Importantly, this letter also implores President Biden to convince our E3 allies to invoke immediate snapback sanctions on Iran. Representatives Tenney and Moskowitz have been on the forefront of calling for the invocation of snapback sanctions for months. Both members signed a letter, led by Representatives Tenney, to our E3 allies in June encouraging them to invoke snapback sanctions.
“The world watched in horror as Iranian-backed terrorists in Gaza launched an attack against Israel. These terrorists kidnapped, killed, raped, and wounded scores of Israeli civilians, including children, women, and the elderly. In the largest single-day massacre since the Holocaust, more than 1200 Jews were murdered in cold blood, including Americans. Countless people have been wounded, and over 100 are being held hostage – reportedly including nearly a dozen Americans," the lawmakers wrote.
The lawmakers continued, "The broader international context in which these attacks occurred cannot be ignored. This war would not have been possible without Iranian weapons, funding, and support. Iran has now proven that it is unwilling to reciprocate diplomatic gestures or financial inducements with anything other than more regional aggression and bloodshed.”
“United Against Nuclear Iran supports the Tenney-Moskowitz letter and commends its signatories. U.S. policy on Iran needs to fundamentally change to hold Tehran accountable and deter it from further aggression. That takes enforcing U.S. sanctions, snapping back UN sanctions, and designating the IRGC as the terrorists that they are. The U.S. should also help its regional allies build closer ties in order to counter the Iranian threat,” said UANI Action.
