Congresswoman Tenney Applauds Small Business Committee’s Passage of Bipartisan Women’s Business Centers Improvement Act

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) today applauded the House Small Business Committee’s unanimous passage of the bipartisan Women’s Business Centers Improvement Act, of which she is a co-lead with Congresswoman Sharice Davids (KS). The bill was passed out of committee by voice vote.

Tenney introduced the Women’s Business Centers Improvement Act with Congresswoman Davids on January 21, 2022. This bipartisan bill reauthorizes and strengthens the Women’s Business Centers (WBC) program, which consists of a national network of entrepreneurship centers for low-cost counseling and training for women interested in starting, growing, and expanding small businesses.

The WBC program empowers female entrepreneurs to cultivate their businesses, and as a long-time small business owner myself, it is a privilege to support this bill to bolster the WBC program and help it expand into rural communities like ours, with additional oversight and good governance measures. This legislation reauthorizes the WBC program through Fiscal Year 2025 and increases the cap on individual center grants for the first time. It also establishes an accreditation program to ensure all WBC provide quality service and counseling as well as additional oversight to ensure the proper use of taxpayer funds.
