Congresswoman Claudia Tenney Opposes Bill Paving Way for Socialist $3.5 Trillion Budget Reconciliation in House

August 24, 2021

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) today voted against the Democrats' $3.5 trillion backdoor budget resolution that paves the way for them to pass Senator Bernie Sanders’ radical “human infrastructure” package through the House of Representatives.

“It is astonishing that at a time when Americans are facing skyrocketing inflation, Speaker Pelosi and Democrats in Congress think the appropriate solution is to raise taxes and force Americans to pay for one of the most expensive and wasteful spending bills in our nation’s history. Today, despite their ‘concerns’ House Democrats fell right in line with Speaker Pelosi’s radical agenda. The real winners here are Bernie Sanders and AOC. Their far-left socialist agenda, which includes the Green New Deal and mass amnesty, are one step closer to becoming law.

“I opposed this legislation because it is horrible for our country. It takes the worst of the progressive Blue State policies we have in New York, and makes them the national standard. It will hurt our economic recovery efforts, increase taxes on small businesses, kill American jobs, and undermine our competitiveness. The Democrats’ plan threatens to expand the welfare state so that Americans are forced to rely on the government from cradle to grave. I also opposed this legislation because of the way it was jammed through the House without even being debated and considered. Speaker Pelosi knew she couldn’t win playing by the rules, so she changed them at the last minute. This is not how the U.S. House of Representatives should work. We are the world’s greatest deliberative body, and we should live up to this distinguished honor.”
