Congresswoman Claudia Tenney Comments on One Year Anniversary of January 6

January 6, 2022

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) today released the following statement in response to partisan efforts by President Biden, Speaker Pelosi, and others to politicize the one-year anniversary of January 6, 2021.

“On January 6 of last year, our nation witnessed unacceptable scenes of violence and destruction at the US Capitol. I have and will always condemn unlawful acts like these that destroy property and abuse our right to peacefully assemble. Using violence to advance a political cause is wrong.

“Yet one year later, I can sadly report that under Democrat leadership, we are no closer to understanding why the Capitol was left so vulnerable or to preventing such events from occurring again. Instead of seeking the facts and identifying the solutions to strengthen the Capitol’s security vulnerabilities, Speaker Pelosi and congressional Democrats chose a path of harmful partisan showmanship. Their focus is on persecuting former president Donald Trump and vilifying millions of Americans who have legitimate concerns about the security and integrity of our elections.

“The US Capitol Police have confirmed that the Capitol building is still vulnerable, and that their workforce remains below appropriate levels of readiness. Despite knowing this information for months, Speaker Pelosi, who is charged with overseeing the Capitol’s security, has taken no meaningful action to address the deficiencies. Facts, law, and the Constitution should guide this process, not Speaker Pelosi’s bitter vindictiveness, which continues to divide Americans needlessly along political fault lines.

“While I was not seated in Congress one year ago today, it is my responsibility to hold the Speaker accountable when she fails to live up to her Constitutional oath. Not in recent history has a speaker so utterly failed in her duties. I am calling on the Speaker to dismantle her sham committee and return this process to the existing bipartisan committees of jurisdiction. Pelosi should abandon her partisan tactics and finally get to work on behalf of America and all Americans.”
