Congresswoman Claudia Tenney calls on Biden Administration to sanction Burmese military leaders and hold human rights abusers accountable

New Hartford, NY -- Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) today sent a letter to the U.S. Department of State calling on the Biden Administration to take immediate action to hold Burmese military leaders accountable after a coup earlier this month.
Congresswoman Tenney said:
"Many Burmese refugees call New York's 22nd Congressional District home, and I stand with them in condemning the coup and calling for the full restoration of democracy and respect for human rights. I urge Secretary of State Blinken to sanction any individuals or military leaders responsible for the coup and to hold human rights abusers accountable for their crimes."
"After decades of military rule, the Burmese people deserve a chance to rebuild their institutions and thrive once again. The military's coup earlier this month is a significant setback for the Burmese people. It undermines their aspirations for a brighter future."
