Congresswoman Claudia Tenney Calls on Biden Administration to Reverse Damaging Border Policies
Washington, D.C. -- Congresswoman Claudia Tenney today joined with New York Congressman John Katko, Ranking Member of the House Homeland Security Committee, and other Republican leaders to call on the Biden Administration to reverse its dangerous executive actions on immigration. These actions have led to a serious crisis at our Southern Border in the middle of a pandemic.
“Since President Biden took office in January, we have seen a dangerous and dramatic shift at our Southern Border," said Congresswoman Claudia Tenney. "The Administration is recklessly throwing away years of sound immigration policy and weakening our border security by catering to illegal immigrants. The American economy is closed, schools are closed, businesses are closed, and yet our border is now wide open. President Biden needs to rescind his damaging executive actions today and restore order at our Nation’s border.”
Under the Administration’s executive actions, construction of the border wall system has been stopped, our immigration laws are being selectively enforced, “catch and release” has been reimplemented, and the "Remain in Mexico" policy has been terminated to allow the entry of thousands of migrants into the country with practically no COVID-19 safety precautions in place. The Administration’s policies are reckless and counterproductive, and leading to a crisis at the border.
By the Numbers:
- Before President Biden took office, there were less than 500 family units per week attempting to cross the border illegally. Today, this number has skyrocketed to nearly 2,500 family units per week.
- The Biden Administration is opening the door to let over 25,000 migrants into the country who previously attempted to enter illegally.
- The federal government reported the highest numbers ever in the history of the Unaccompanied Alien Children program for February 2021.
- Customs and Border Patrol is estimating that 13,000 unaccompanied children will cross the border in May 2021, which exceeds the number of encounters at the height of the 2019 border crisis.
- Due to capacity restraints, Customs and Border Patrol has been forced to release thousands of migrants into border communities.
- This week, 185 illegal immigrants tested positive for COVID-19 after crossing the Southern Border, adding to the staggering 1,553 migrants who have tested positive since January 25.
