Advocacy Groups for Local Military Installations Praise Congresswoman Tenney’s Vote for the FY24 NDAA

December 14, 2023

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) today voted in favor of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24), which passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 310-118. This legislation includes two of Congresswoman Tenney’s amendments aimed at strengthening U.S. national security.

“The United States continues to face a widespread array of threats from adversaries like China, Iran, and Russia, who continue to jeopardize our national security and international stability,” said Congresswoman Tenney. “While this year's NDAA isn't perfect, it's a significant step towards modernizing our military, strengthening readiness, and improving our defense capabilities. This NDAA would authorize $874.2 billion in spending for national defense discretionary programs, a $16 billion increase from the FY 2023 enacted level, and a 5.2% pay increase for servicemembers, the largest pay increase in over 20 years.

“The passage of the FY24 NDAA enforces House Republicans' mission to rid our military of the woke agenda pressed on them by the Biden administration and restores the military’s focus on our military’s lethality. For example, this bill reiterates the need for promotions based on merit while also banning many woke policies, such as drag shows on military bases and teaching CRT in our DOD schools and Service Academies.

“I was especially pleased that the bill included two of my amendments to require a report on CENTCOM’s capability gaps and on the threats posed by unmanned aircraft to military bases and installations. I am eager to continue advocating for all our servicemembers and their families, especially those stationed at Fort Drum, Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, and New York’s 24th Congressional District. House Republicans’ unwavering commitment to our national security and servicemembers was reiterated today. I am thrilled that our Armed Forces will continue to have the resources they need to defend the freedoms bestowed to us by our great nation.”

“The FY24 NDAA is great news for Fort Drum. Installation resiliency is a key factor in determining military value, and the well-field expansion project certainly contributes to Fort Drum’s resiliency. We’re pleased as well that our local schools will continue to receive impact aid under the NDAA, which reduces school taxes in those impacted districts. Finally, we are glad that our service members will receive a 5.2% pay raise, the largest in over 20 years. Advocate Drum is proud to strongly support the FY24 NDAA,” said David J. Zembiec, Chair of Advocate Drum.

“We appreciate the support that Congresswoman Tenney has shown to the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station and her vote in favor of the FY24 NDAA. From the very beginnings of our nation, we have depended upon the National Guard to be there to assist in protecting our nation. Today our Army and Air Force continue in this great tradition of calling upon our citizen soldiers and airmen to carry out their mission. To say that we are creating a Space National Guard really is a misnomer as in reality it already exists with over 1,000 airmen who have been carrying out the space mission since 1996 within the National Guard. We hope that at the end of this study we continue to do what has been successful in the past. At a time in our nation when we are looking to find efficient methods for the defense of our nation why would we not look to the tried and true solutions of the past. The National Guard has been a tried and true example of what works,” said John A. Cooper, Sr., Chairman, Niagara Military Affairs Council (NIMAC).

“Congresswoman Tenney is steadfast in her commitment to support enhanced investments in the Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate (AFRL/RI) to boost our nation's research and technological capabilities, including the critically important field of quantum, the first and only government-owned UAS Traffic Management system and future Advanced Air Mobility system, counter UAS and artificial intelligence. Her vote in favor of the FY2024 National Defense Authorization Act is a demonstration of the Congresswoman’s unwavering support for Rome Lab and the investments in technology that are critical to our warfighter and our nation's security,” said MC Chruscicki, Central New York Defense Alliance Executive Director.
