  • Federal aid cannot become available until the counties and State meet specified threshold levels, once these thresholds are met you will be able to apply to FEMA for: short-term housing assistance and home repairs, low-cost loans for property losses and temporary unemployment payment.

Homeowners who suffered property damage

  • Contact your insurance company and/or agent.  Be aware that your policy might require that you notify your provider within a certain time frame.
  • It is important to have your furnace inspected if you had flooding in your basement.
  • Ventilate your home in order to decrease the risk of mold growth and moisture.
  • Ask your insurance provider what documents, forms and data you will need when you file your claim.
  • In general, keep a detailed account of your interactions with your insurance company and insurance agent.
