Washington, DC –Congresswomen Claudia Tenney (R-New York) and Congressman John Faso (R-Kinderhook) today praised the Trump Administration’s actions granting a Major Disaster Declaration to seven counties in Upstate New York that experienced unprecedented rainfall and subsequent flash flooding from August 13-15, 2018. Faso and Tenney had previously requested this declaration from the administration to help supplement state and local disaster recovery efforts and further assist the impacted communities rebuild and better prepare for future flooding.

“Unusually high levels of rainfall along with severe flash flooding, caused significant and costly damage to homes, infrastructure, and small businesses. This declaration of a major disaster provides the much-needed support to ensure our communities in Broome, Chenango, and Tioga counties can address these costs and mitigate against future flooding,” said Congresswoman Claudia Tenney. “We are grateful to President Trump and FEMA for issuing a major disaster declaration and providing this much-needed support from the federal government.”

“Critical federal support is on its way for the resilient residents of Broome County, Delaware County, and other areas impacted by severe flooding this summer,” said Congressman John Faso.  “There is much work to be done, but I am encouraged by President Trump’s answer to our call for support and relief.  As local families and businesses face millions in damage costs, the Major Disaster Declaration will provide critical assistance to the dedicated state and local efforts to repair and protect our communities.”
