Today, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney announced $256,581 in federal funding for Griffiss International Airport, located in Oneida County. The funding is awarded through a grant allocated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) under the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The grant will fund phase one of a six-phase project to reconstruct 11,820 feet of the existing Runway 15/33 pavement that has reached the end of its useful life. Phase one will account for the design phase of the reconstruction on the first 3,000 feet of the runway.

“As an important regional asset, Griffiss International Airport has been a key contributor in helping to grow our local economy in the Utica-Rome area. From serving the aviation needs of the Mohawk Valley to becoming the home of an FAA drone test site, Griffiss is a vital resource to our region. The eventual rehabilitation of this runway will continue to help Griffiss expand and better serve the Mohawk Valley.  Going forward, I will continue to work to strengthen Griffiss and ensure further developments and federal investments,” said Congresswoman Claudia Tenney.

“This FAA grant will be instrumental in renovating the runway at Griffiss International Airport which is in serious need of repair,” said Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. “The money will go toward the design phase for the first portion of the rehab project and will ultimately allow our facility to provide improved service to our growing list of tenants and customers. I thank the FAA for this opportunity and Congresswoman Tenney and Senators Schumer and Gillibrand for the assistance they provided in securing the funding.”
