Washington, DC— Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) toured the Madison County ARE Park and Landfill to see firsthand the economic impacts that new ARE Park developments have had on the local economy. Madison County recently completed development of a sewer and water line in partnership with the City of Oneida, OCWA and the Madison County Industrial Development Agency(IDA). Rep. Tenney was also briefed on plastics-to-energy technology which the Madison County Department of Solid Waste is currently exploring. Rep. Tenney was joined by James Zecca, Director of the Madison County Department of Solid Waste

“Madison County is at the forefront of developing and implementing state of the art technology to enhance sustainability and renewable energy. Under Madison County's leadership, the ARE Park and Landfill has been a model operation for more than 40 years, and the county continues to develop forward thinking ways to take advantage of the ARE Park and Landfill to keep our communities clean. During the tour of the facility, I had the chance to see firsthand the renewable technology used to dispose of waste and enhance the recyclability of materials. The innovative methods used to dispose of waste generate electricity and revenue for the county, and the surplus heat is used to heat the county's recycling center during the winter months," said Congresswoman Claudia Tenney.

“Energy from our non-recyclable plastics and tires is in our future in Madison County and we were happy to share our vision with Congresswomen Tenney who spent a lot of time with us asking many questions about the process of converting non-recyclable materials into clean locally produced energy,” said James Zecca, Director of the Madison County Department of Solid Waste.

John Becker, Chairman of the Madison County Board of Supervisors, stated, “I want to thank Congresswomen Tenney for taking the time to visit our Agriculture and Renewable Energy Park (ARE Park). We look forward to her continued support in Madison County helping us recruit cutting edge businesses.”
