Washington, DC— Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) had the unique opportunity to testify in front of members of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Military, Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies to advocate for a perimeter fence around the Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate in Rome, New York, also known as Rome Lab.

“For decades, Rome Lab has stood at the forefront of advanced cyber research and development projects within the Airforce. As a leader in communications and information technologies, Rome Lab ensures that our defense capabilities remain on the cutting edge. The highly sensitive nature of Rome Lab’s research and development projects place the site at a heightened risk,” said Rep. Claudia Tenney “The critical work conducted at Rome Lab necessitates appropriate security safeguards, including a secure system of perimeter fencing. Without this important precaution, the facility’s sensitive information is left extremely vulnerable. A security fence around Rome’s perimeter will also increase the safety of the Lab’s more than 3,000 personnel and reduce the facility’s susceptibility to terrorist type activities. I urge the members of the Appropriations Committee to fund the perimeter fence by including my request in the National Defense Authorization Act.”

Rep. Tenney provided this testimony in support of the request submitted to Congress by the Secretary of the Air Force. In early March 2017, Rep. Tenney testified before the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee in support of increased funding for Rome Lab. Through this testimony, she helped secure more than $200 million in funding for Rome Lab in the federal spending bill.
