Today, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) announced that the Army has terminated the Financial Management Support Operations Center Pilot program. In a recent briefing, the Army confirmed that it is terminating the pilot program with no immediate enterprise-wide structural changes set to take effect or recommended for the future.

“This is welcome news for the DFAS-Rome workforce,” said Congresswoman Claudia Tenney.  “The termination of this pilot program without any designated changes means that the workforce at DFAS-Rome can rest easy. I will continue to work with the Army and my colleagues in Congress to ensure that future efforts to evaluate financial management structures within the Army do not unduly hurt DFAS.”

As part of the Army Financial Management Optimization Campaign Plan (AFMO), the Army began a pilot program to assess the efficacy of restructuring certain aspects of its financial operations. While well-intentioned, there were concerns that in carrying out its plan, the Army could unfairly impact the workforce at the Defense Finance Accounting Service (DFAS) facility in Rome.

In March, shortly after President Trump signed an Executive Order implementing a government-wide hiring freeze, Rep. Tenney joined Senator Schumer to urge the Department of Defense to exempt DFAS from the freeze because of the vital role it plays in the daily operation of the U.S. Army.
