Washington, DC— Today, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) held a press conference at the Central New York Veteran’s Outreach Center in Utica, New York to donate her salary from the first day of the government shutdown to the Central New York Veteran’s Outreach Center. This important organization provides comprehensive services and assistance to our veterans and their families including food, shelter and workforce training.
“The government shutdown put our military, their families and our nation’s veterans at risk. Our men and women in uniform should never be used as a political leverage. That’s why I am donating my salary from the first day of the Schumer Shutdown to Utica’s Central New York Veteran Outreach Center. Vince Scalise and the entire team at the Veterans Outreach Center provide critical services and assistance to our veterans across Central New York and the Mohawk Valley,”-said Congresswoman Claudia Tenney.
Rep. Tenney wrote a letter requesting that the House withhold her salary until an appropriations agreement had taken effect. For each day of the shutdown, Rep. Tenney pledged to donate her salary to needy organizations and constituents in the 22nd District hurt by the Schumer Shutdown. Rep. Tenney also introduced the No Work, No Pay Act of 2018, H.R. 4870 which would require Members of Congress to forfeit their pay each day the government remains shut down.
“As a Veteran as well as the Director of a Veterans’ Service agency, I understand the importance to support agency’s such as ours. As a citizen I believe that there is no need to allow our government to shut down and I applauded the Congresswomen for fighting so hard to serve us in Washington. As always, all donated funds go directly to help Veterans and their families in need,” said Vinny Scalise, Director of the Central New York Veterans Outreach Center.
