Washington, DC—Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) is now a co-sponsor of Securing America’s Future Act of 2018, H.R. 4760.  This bill will keep Americans safe by securing our border and refocuses legal immigration on skills needed in the U.S. through merit-based reforms.

“Immigrants have significantly contributed to the greatness of our country.  However, we are a nation of laws and the laws surrounding our current immigration system need to be fixed.  Securing America’s Future Act provides common sense solutions to fix our broken immigration system,” said Congresswoman Claudia Tenney.  “Nations across the world have a merit based immigration system. Currently, our immigration system prioritizes chain-migration over skills-based migration, which fails to serve our national interests.  This bill establishes merit-based reforms that will attract talent, protect American workers, and fuel our economy.”

Securing America’s Future Act of 2018 will:

  • Refocus legal immigration on skills needed in the U.S. by ending the Diversity Via Lottery Program, ending chain migration, increasing immigration levels for skilled workers, and creating a workable agricultural guest worker program to grow our economy.  The Agricultural Guest Worker Reform will grow our economy by allowing a resident of a foreign country, which he has no intention of abandoning, come temporarily to the United States to perform agricultural labor or services.
  • Secure our border through advanced technology, authorizing border wall construction, securing ports of entry, and adding 5,000 border patrol agents and 5,000 CBP officers.
  • Prevent future illegal immigration via interior forces by cracking down on sanctuary cities, detaining dangerous individuals, safely returning unaccompanied minors held at the border, and enhancing criminal penalties from deported criminals who illegally return.
