Today, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (R—NY) co-authored a letter to the Commissioner of Alaska’s Department of Fish and Game regarding H.J. Res. 69, a resolution that would nullify the rule issued under the Obama Administration by the Department of the Interior to regulate the way Alaska controls its wildlife population. In the letter, Rep. Tenney called for the use of humane methods in the procedures used to manage fish and wildlife on National Wildlife Refuges in Alaska.

“In writing this letter, I am urging Alaska’s Department of Fish and Game to ensure that fair and humane treatment methods are employed in the process of managing wildlife on federal lands,” said Rep. Claudia Tenney. “When I was sworn into Congress, I took an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States, and the vote I took today to support H.J.Res. 69 affirms my commitment to upholding states’ rights.  However, I have concerns about the implementation and practices allegedly used by the state authorities to manage the wildlife populations.  I recognize that through the Tenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, Alaska’s state government has the authority to manage its lands and wildlife without undue federal interference. I simply urge the authorities to use humane and ethical practices based on the need for biodiversity, and to protect and maintain ecosystem norms in federal lands."

Ten members joined Rep. Tenney in signing the letter.
