Congresswoman Tenney Demands Investigation of Hochul Administration Following CCP Spy Indictment

Oswego, New York—Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) sent a letter to the Governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, demanding an investigation into the Governor and her administration following the Department of Justice's recent indictment of Linda Sun, a high-ranking official of the Hochul administration, for acting as an agent of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Tenney’s letter calls for a bipartisan panel to be appointed to investigate Sun, who is accused of using her position to further the interests and promote policies beneficial to the CCP and her involvement in the Hochul administration. Sun is reported to scrub anti-CCP or pro-Taiwan rhetoric from New York State officials’ remarks, fraudulently use New York State resources to assist CCP officials in entering the United States, block meeting requests from anti-CCP or pro-Taiwan organizations, and leverage her position for private material gain. This follows numerous reports that the CCP operates secret police stations in New York City to monitor, intimidate, and control Chinese New Yorkers, and New York State has yet to take serious action against these stations.

Tenney demanded answers to the following questions by September 18, 2024:

• When did you learn that Ms. Sun was a compromised CCP agent? Was this before or after being informed by the Department of Justice?
• Given Ms. Sun’s repeated attempts to censor New York State officials’ speeches to comply with CCP talking points, did you ever suspect that Ms. Sun may have had an inappropriate relationship with the CCP?
• Can you provide a list of how many, if any, meetings you have had with TECO or TECRO officials during your time as Governor and Lieutenant Governor? Please also provide a list of how many meetings you had with CCP officials during your time as Governor and Lieutenant Governor?
• Will you commit to meeting with TECO and apologizing for Ms. Sun’s attempts to bar them from official meetings with New York State officials?
• Do you recognize the important role that New Yorks’ trade relationship with Taiwan plays in our economy and the importance of maintaining strong ties with Taiwan?
• Will you commit to recognizing Taiwanese-American Heritage Week in 2025?
• Do you recognize the ongoing CCP genocide of the Uyghurs in the Xinjiang Province? Do you regret not include a remark about this atrocity in your 2021 Lunar New Year video, as was originally intended before Ms. Sun’s intervention?
• Did Ms. Sun’s ownership of a 2024 Ferrari arise any suspicion of improper payments?
• What steps, if any, have you taken to ensure there are no other compromised CCP agents within your administration?
• What steps, if any, have you taken to ensure that no compromised CCP agents are allowed to enter your administration?

“Under Governor Hochul, the Chinese Communist Party has successfully placed a spy at the highest levels of our state government. Operating under their influence, Linda Sun was able to censor speeches and conceal information to further the CCP's mission while undermining New York's vital relationship with Taiwan. We must conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the full extent of Sun's actions and their impact on our government and economy. It is imperative that no compromised CCP agents remain in the administration or are permitted to enter in the future,” said Congresswoman Tenney.
