Congresswoman Tenney Applauds House Passage of SAVE America Act to Strengthen Election Integrity
Washington, DC — Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) today highlighted the House passage of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act, commonsense legislation to strengthen the integrity of federal elections by ensuring that only United States citizens vote.
The House passed the legislation by a vote of 218–213.
The SAVE America Act modernizes federal election law by requiring documentary proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections, mandating that states remove non-citizens from voter rolls, and establishing uniform photo identification requirements for voting in federal contests. The legislation also enhances accountability by empowering citizens to bring civil actions when election officials fail to uphold citizenship verification requirements and by establishing penalties for election officials who knowingly register non-citizens to vote. This bill reflects growing bipartisan concern about election integrity and the need to restore public confidence in the democratic process.
“As Chair of the Election Integrity Caucus, I have been clear that protecting the right to vote begins with safeguarding the integrity of our elections,” said Congresswoman Tenney. “The SAVE America Act reinforces a simple principle most Americans agree on: voting in federal elections is a right reserved for American citizens. This legislation strengthens transparency, restores confidence in our election system, and helps ensure that every lawful vote is counted and protected from dilution.”
